11 Tips To Make Your Groom Feel Special

Although the wedding is for both the Bride and Groom.  Most of the attention goes towards the Bride.  The guest are "Oohing" and "Awwing" over her dress the whole evening.  Let's face it, the Groom is left out.  But, you, his Bride can make him feel special. Remember, at this point, you're the only thing that matters.  Below are 11 tips on how to make him feel special.
  1. Order a Groom’s cake, but make it really unique to him.
  2. Let him pick some of his favorite songs for the DJ or band to play at your wedding.
  3. Do something unique with the “garter” – use his favorite scent or put a special treat in the garter for him to find.
  4. Have snacks and drinks for him and the Groomsmen before the ceremony
  5. Direct questions to both the Bride and Groom – ask questions specifically of him when profiling
  6. Let him give suggestions and incorporate those ideas
  7. Pick some part of the reception or ceremony and ask him to “surprise you” with his own idea. Let him design it and put his ideas into play! You may be surprised!
  8. Send a gift to his hotel room the night before your wedding or to him the morning after his bachelor party.

Survive a Summer Wedding with Tips on What NOT to Wear ! (taken from Slice.ca website interview)

Renée Strauss, owner of Beverly Hills bridal boutique Renée Strauss for the Bride and host of Slice show Brides of Beverly Hills, shares her top 5 do’s and don’ts for summer wedding fashion:

1. Brides always come first! After they all, they are the main attraction. Stay away from heavy fabrics. Silk chiffon and organza draped and flowing are both lightweight and comfortable alternatives. If you’re looking for a more formal look, crisp and fresh silk taffeta with a full ballroom skirt and a flowing train give a lush appearance without being heavy.

2. Grooms in Europe are wearing dashing brocades in ivory and even pastels. I often see linen jackets paired with beautifully tailored trousers.
3. The Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom are the First Ladies of the wedding! It’s wonderful if they can discuss the colour scheme with the bride. In my part of the world, we even incorporate step-in-laws into the wedding parties, which, if not handled with care can quickly become the out-laws! No matter how stunning these women may be, they cannot possibly upstage the bride. So as long as it is tasteful and culturally/religiously appropriate, they will look beautiful.

4. Bridesmaids chiffon is in! Tea-length/cocktail length is in demand even for more formal weddings but you still cannot go wrong with long, full-length gowns. Designer Bill Levkoff makes flowy bridesmaids dresses with well-constructed bodices that flatter all shapes and sizes. Therefore, I always recommend their line when the bridal party faces these challenges. Eggplant and soft pink are the most popular colour choices!

5. Flowergirls steal the show! The little angels look adorable in just about anything. It is important, however, to be careful that the dresses not be too long. The active living dolls can get very excited and once they start twirling, there can be risk of injury if they stumble on their hemline. Neutrals like white and ivory, depending upon the bride’s gown, are the most lovely. If the bride wears white, so should the flowergirls. The same goes for ivory

ASK BEVERLY: Are there any special rules to selecting my wedding colors?

Normally the colors you select will set the tone that you want to convey, so be sure to think about it.  You should consider the setting and style of your wedding and to stick to just two or three complementary colors.  Usually, it's best to stay away from dark colors or jewel tones for summer weddings and to avoid pastels or other pale shades in the winter months.  White and taupe work all year round.

But remember, this is your wedding, try new things and incorporate your own style!

How do you choose an officiant when you're unaffiliated

Are you confused confused when it comes to choosing an officiant when you're unaffiliated? Because so many clients ask my advice about choosing an officiant, I've decided to provide a few suggestions.
  • Ask friends, neighbors, and wedding professionals living or working in the area where you want to get married for recommendations.
  • Check the yellow pages and the Internet under "churches" or "synagogues" for houses of worship to your area.
  • Inquire with the ministry office at a local college; many have chaplains who can perform weddings.

Why is it bad luck for the groom to see his bride before the ceremony?

Once, it was considered bad luck for the groom to see his bride and for the bride to see herself in a mirror in her wedding clothes before the wedding. Because the wedding ceremony marked a break between old and new, never to overlap, people thought that if the groom saw the bride before the ceremony, she would not be pure and new and if the bride saw herself in a mirror before the wedding she would leave some of herself behind in the reflection.

Brides stay away from those mirrors!
